the homeless lyfe is da lyfe 4 me

Let me tell you the problem (well, one of the many) with the Provo student housing system. For a period of three days between winter and spring semester, Provo is transformed from a typical college town full of student residents into a place crawling with approximately 20,000 hobos. As in HOMELESS PEOPLE. As in BUMS.  FREELOADERS. RUFFIANS. I know this because, just two days ago, I was one of them.

On Friday morning, April 20, 2012 at approximately 9:00am, I was shamelessly thrown out onto the street along with my 5 other cohorts. Luckily, some had family close by and were able to escape the fate that awaited the rest of us. But as for me, I loaded all of my possessions into a car that I didn't even own (don't worry, its my brother's and I had consent) and drove into the sun (aka: Salt Lake, for the Half Marathon). I was homeless, in every sense of the word.

Everything I owned was on wheels.
The sun was shining.
And there was miles of road stretched out all around me.
I'VE NEVA FELT SO ALIIIIVE.

can't tie me down.

blood, sweat, and no tears

On Saturday, a serious life-goal was achieved. Its true. I, Julie Brigham, can now call myself a proud finisher of the Salt Lake Half Marathon. I can now throw away my assortment of YMCA basketball medals and AYSO soccer trophies sitting on my shelf, and put something much more impressive and up-to-date in their place.

HeX 2 the YeS.

However, being a half marathon finisher did not come without a price to pay.  No way, Jose. I most definitely injured myself while fighting for that silver and gold finisher's medal. I'll spare you the details and just let you know that imma be mildly handicapped for the next week and a half. So if you see me waddling around campus... please, no judgement.

For my next half-marathon, I plan on being a shameless supporter of Body Glide: for comfort, for life.

mah jams

Jams, slaps, tunes, ill beats.... whatever you want to call them, these songs are good!

1.  "Young Blood" by The Naked and Famous
This also makes a mean Pandora station. Trust me, I listened to it for hours straight while I was working on my charcoal drawing... and I literally thumbs-up'ed errrrrythaaang.

2. Of Monsters and Men "My Head is an Animal"
This is my latest iTunes purchase, and its RARE that I purchase anything! EVERY SONG IS WORTH IT. TRUST ME.
Click here to sample it free!

3. Pentatonix's acapella cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye
OBSESSED.

4. "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen
CLASSIC. #sorryboutithaterz

5. "Hang With Me" by Robyn
Also great. I'm realizing that these are in no particular order. Ideally, you should listen to this song in the car, with yo windows down.

hey sister soul sister

Thats us!  Illustration of Mosiah 18:8, drawn by an
Elder in Russia.

Let me tell you about my best friend.
I have known her my whole life.
She is crazy, funny, smart, and beautiful.
She loves sports, the great outdoors, tie-dye, and mangos.
She hates cats and feet. And is allergic to nature.
She can get a mean farmers tan, which I am jealous of because I can't even tan at all.
She rocks the ponytail, but I'm pretty sure she's branching out these days.
Everybody loves her, and everybody looks up to her.
Including me.
She taught me how to rollerblade. And ten years later... how to drive.
When I was little, she would sometimes crawl into bed with me and steal all my covers. I didn't mind.
She is always there to listen to me when I need to vent. Or just talk... I talk a lot.
I can tell her anything without ever feeling stupid.
She thinks I'm funny. She makes me think I'm funny.
Her laugh is contagious.
When I say that nobody knows me, she lists everything there is about me. Then I stop being so dramatic.
I can always count on her for a game of tennis, a trip to Goodwill, or a crazy bike ride.
With her, I'm content just blasting country music and driving.
She's always the first to fall asleep during late-night movies. I'm always the last.
She's the most punctual person I know. Her watch is always 5 minutes fast.
She can make anyone feel comfortable and be themselves.
When anyone asks me who my childhood hero is, I always say it is her.
She is my best friend.
She is my role model.
She is my sister.

I haven't seen her in a year and a half, but she is coming home in less than TWO MONTHS!

Her flight is booked. My flight is booked. I CANNOT WAIT.
I LOVE YOU LAURA.
